I should have some experience, right?

Absolutely not! In fact, 99% of our student base came in with no experience and half of us never even played a sport in high school. Zero experience required period.

You will learn everything you need to learn inside our academy. Think about it, Coach Logan and Coach Taylor had no clue what they were doing their first times on the mats!

I’ve always wanted to try it, I just don’t have the time.

We know you’re busy, we get it. Most of our students have more than one child, work full-time (maybe even more than one job), live a good distance from the gym and still find time to train! It’s all about priorities. The Griffin Brothers have designed this schedule to suit anybody’s needs. Jiu Jitsu is one of the best investments you can make for yourself – your health, physically and mentally. It’s totally worth putting training at the top of your list and make time for it. Just trust us on this one!

I’ll try Jiu Jitsu when I’m in better shape.

There’s no such thing as good enough shape to start training Jiu Jitsu. In other words, nothing you do outside the mats can prepare you for the mats. That’s why Jiu Jitsu training is the ultimate training. 

Believe us, you don’t have to be in shape to come start training – you will take it at your own pace. We like to say it like this, if someone steps onto a tread mill they have the choice of how fast they want to go. You can pace yourself on a treadmill or you can go full sprint. Same thing with Jiu Jitsu. You’ll find someone that can help you and push you each and every time you come to the academy. Not everyday has to be intense. Maybe you “rolled” for 5 minutes tonight, but next time you roll your goal can be for 6 minutes, so and so forth. As we like to say “Jiu Jitsu is a marathon, not a sprint that is designed for anybody in the world.”

As silly as this may sound, it’s a super common question that we get. Easily answered. No. No one on our mats is going to try to hurt you. We are not there to hurt or injure our training partners. 

For the most part, you will be paired up with someone your own skill level, size and age. Trust us, everyone on the mats has your best interest in mind. We’ve all been the new person and know how it feels. Your experience at Bristol Jiu Jitsu will be incredible and we can guarantee that. We’re not going to hurt you; we are going to help you. If you leave an arm behind, we will stop and show you how to fix your mistake. Or if you’re not protecting your neck. “Hey man, make sure to keep your hand up so I can’t do a collar choke.” 

That’s how it is going to go.

What’s included in my free trial?

We welcome all new students to a 30 day free trial. No if’s and’s or but’s. We have everything you need at our academy. You don’t need a thing to come in and try it out. And no, you’re not committing to anything either. No contracts, no money upfront, we just simply want you to try it out for yourself and see how awesome it really is.

It can be scary to come alone, so bring a friend or two!
